Forest Findings Walkthrough

Forest Findings is the sixth main mission in Monster Hunter Wilds and the second half of Chapter 1-3. It is not included in the Prologue Demo, which stops after To the Forest, but it is the first major assignment demo players encounter after save data transfer or a fresh retail start following demo spoilers. This guide covers objectives, both large monster hunts, pop-up camp tutorials, and Wudwud Lynian negotiations—with an official IGN gameplay video embedded for visual learners.

Mission overview

Forest Findings begins immediately after To the Forest in retail. Alma, Gemma, Nata, and members of the Astrum Unit push into the Scarlet Forest, establish a forest base camp, deploy pop-up camps for forward operations, and investigate Doshaguma traces that lead to unexpected threats—Lala Barina and later Congalala. You also meet Erik, Werner, and Lynian negotiator Plumpeach at the Wudwud hideout.

Imported demo saves should arrive with To the Forest complete and Forest Findings ready to accept. If transfer failed, verify patch 1.042 and the no-full-save rule on the save transfer page.

Phase 1: Into the Scarlet Forest

Ride with the group toward the forest entrance. Early segments are linear—stay near Alma and Gemma until the Scarlet Forest base camp cutscene plays. Explore camp dialogue with NPCs before departing; optional chatter foreshadows pop-up camp logistics and upgrade tutorials.

Talk to Erik when prompted to leave camp and set up a forward pop-up camp. You temporarily travel on foot without Seikret; use your slinger to grab distant gather nodes if the route allows without breaking mission pacing.

Phase 2: Pop-up camp setup

Pop-up camps become a core Wilds system: lightweight forward bases for rest, item management, and fast travel anchors. Follow markers to the designated site and complete the setup interaction. After deployment, the squad resumes tracking Doshaguma evidence.

Use this beat to reorganize your item bar and ensure shock traps or flash pods are crafted if recipes are unlocked—Lala Barina rewards trap openings later.

Phase 3: Hunt Lala Barina

Tracking diverts when Erik discovers fur and signs pointing to Lala Barina, a spider-themed threat in the forest canopy. The fight introduces verticality and status pressure—wire mobility helps reposition when webs constrain movement.

Tips:

  • Break leg and head parts when safe to reduce jump frequency.
  • Fire and ice elements help per ecology charts; upgrade weapons if To the Forest materials left you short.
  • Accessibility settings include arachnophobia assistance—enable if spider visuals distract you from tells.

Assignment name in retail may appear as A Stage of Rose and Thorn. Slay conditions advance the story regardless of optional side objectives left incomplete.

Phase 4: Wudwud Lynians and Congalala

After Lala Barina, return to the pop-up camp for scenes with raiding critters, then follow Alma and a Lynian companion toward the Wudwud Hideout. Speak with Plumpeach to negotiate help against a “big menace”—Congalala.

Survey optional forest zones if the mission allows before committing to the Congalala search. Scoutflies lead to a sleeping Congalala cutscene, then the full hunt begins.

Congalala tips:

  • Its gas and odor mechanics punish greedy aggression—carry deodorant or equivalent cleansers.
  • Weak rear and head breaks matter for flinch opportunities.
  • Flash pods and traps shorten the fight substantially for first-timers.

Retail labels this hunt Drive Off the Congalala! Completion returns you to forest base camp and finishes Forest Findings, unlocking deeper Scarlet Forest exploration and side quests leading toward Chapter 1-4.

Demo vs retail boundary

Demo players who have not purchased retail should avoid major spoilers beyond knowing Forest Findings exists. Finish Desert Trotters and To the Forest first within demo limits. Read what’s included for the exact stop point.

Retail hunters jumping straight from demo transfer should upgrade gear at the forest smithy before Lala Barina—Field Surveys unlocked during To the Forest exist precisely to prevent gear checks from feeling abrupt.

Forest Findings is where Chapter 1-3 pays off: two distinct large monsters, a new camp layer, and Lynian faction introduction. Treat pop-up camps as permanent tools—not one-off tutorials—and Chapter 1-4 will feel like exploration rather than another lecture.
